LIFE OF PI

Piscine Molitor Patel, Pi, goes through a significant religious awakening in his formative years, subscribing to a variety of religions: Hinduism, Catholicism, and finally Islam. As a child, he listen to the Hindu myths told by his mother at bedtime. In the movie he hides under the blankets reading a comic book about the life of Krishna. The Hero frame of the comic tells the story of how Yashoda, the nurse maid of baby Krishna, forced the infant 's mouth open thinking he has eaten dirt, and instead saw the entire universe before her.
The reasearch for this project was really interesting, this was a period piece, so looking trhough actual Indian comics from the seventies for inspiration was quite an unusual treat.

The comic book has about 32 pages, six and the full cover were original illustrations. I paint the frames imitating the old look of the halftone, a texture of little dots and the intentional bad registering of the colors, I printed it in thin news print paper, and staple bound it to deliver a finished prop ready to shoot.
