STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

Working in “Star Trek, The Future Begins” was one awesome experience!. I have the once in a life time opportunity to be part of the team designing the “Enterprise” interior new look. J.J. Abrams and Scott Chambliss, the production designer extraordinaire, were looking for a specific unknown design to fit a complicated time period. This movie was actually a prequel, back when Kirk becomes a star fleet officer, so we couldn't go very high tech or more technologically advanced than the "future" Enterprise, with the risk of falling into a very simple and dated ship, since we still needed to reflect a sophisticated technology.
We were all trying different options and inspirations, I started by sketching simple console designs in pencil using as a reference an old car bumper, the idea evoked an old/modern feel, and lucky me one of them was the ticket!. J.J. love it and I was thrilled. Then the same look spread to the other consoles, buttresses and hub, and the whole interior.
